Robert E. Donaldson

Robert E. Donaldson was born January 19, 1923 in Duncan, Oklahoma.

He passed on to his Heavenly home January 8, 1952 at the age of 28 years, 11 months and 20 days.

He became a Christian at the age of 13 years.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Donaldson of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; three brothers, Jeral Donaldson of Sayre, Oklahoma; and Meral and Lonnie of the home address.

One brother, R. L. preceded him in death.

Two grandparents, Mrs. Nancy Minor of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Mrs. Martha Donaldson of Gould, Oklahoma; and a host of relatives also survive.

He attended the Strong City high school from which he graduated in 1940.

He was married to Oneta Zikes March 27, 1942.

He enlisted in the Army on July 30, 1942 at Clinton, Oklahoma.

He volunteered for service with the Air Force in 1943 and entered the service of his country as an aviation cadet February 7, 1944. His last basic training as an instructor was at Douglas, Arizona. From here he went on to Estonerfield, Massachusetts just prior to going overseas to fulfill the mission for his country in Italy. He was a pilot of a B-25 bomber and flew 57 missions over Germany in 30 days. Robert was twice awarded the War Department's Distinguished citation, also the bronze star and other awards.

He preached his own funeral as he lay on the bed of affliction. He had the patience after the likeness of Job for in the end he had that deep and abiding faith which allowed him to say: "I know my Redeemer liveth". He was thankful for God's keeping.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., January 10, 1952 at the Baptist Church at Berlin, Oklahoma. Rev. Pete Engle officiating.

Interment was made in the Strong City cemetery, Strong City, Roger Mills county, Oklahoma with Scroggins Funeral Home in charge.
