Funeral services for William Nelson Selby, age 84, will be held March 12, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Reydon Community Church officiated by Alberta Helton. Burial will be at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Cheyenne, Oklahoma.
William Nelson Selby was born August 20, 1919 in Reydon, Oklahoma to Dovie Mae Cockrell Selby and Nelson Warren Selby. He moved to his heavenly home, Tuesday, March 9, 2004.
Nelson attended Reydon School and worked on the family farm until he married Norma Gene Davis of Crawford, Oklahoma on October 28, 1941.
Nelson and Norma Gene made their home on the Davis farm at Durham, Oklahoma until 1952 when he moved his family to Phillips, Texas where he worked for Phillips Petroleum Company until his retirement in 1979.
After retirement he moved back to the family farm at Reydon. In 1993 he and Norma Gene moved to Clinton to be close to family.
Nelson joined the Pentecostal Church in 1949. He enjoyed singing and playing music and working for the Lord. He was a deacon in the Reydon Community Church.
His hobbies were hunting, fishing, rock collecting and gardening.
Nelson was a master of all trades.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter and one great granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norma Gene of the home; two sons, Jackie Ray Selby and wife, Carolyn of Pampa, Texas; and Roy Nelson Selby and wife, Bonnie of Borger, Texas; two daughters, Reta Hall and husband Eugene of Clinton, Oklahoma; and Reba Helms and husband, Steve of Monroe, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Thurston Selby and wife, Phoebe of Sturgis, South Dakota; Austin Selby and wife, Shelly of Stinett, Texas; Billy McCoy of Durham, Oklahoma; Raylene Ray and husband, Tony of Foss, Oklahoma; Gena Donelson and husband Lance of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Elwyn Martin of Raleigh, North Carolina; Jamie Helms Brice of Raleigh, North Carolina; Steve Helms, Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina; thirteen great grandchildren, Elaine, Thurston, David and Daniel Selby of Sturgis, Souh Dakota; Ricky and Ethan Selby of Stinnett, Texas; Travis and Whitney McCoy of Chickasha, Oklahoma; Kathy and Justin Ray of Foss, Oklahoma; Logan and Lexi Donelson of Weatherford, Oklahoma; one brother, Jack Selby of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Lenora Hooper of Perryton, Texas; sister- in-law, Joyce Davis of Pampa, Texas; as well as numerous friends.
