Bertha Scott Adams Porter was born July 16, 1913 in Roll, Oklahoma to Lillie May and A. C. Scott. She passed away March 17, 2006 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 1 day.
Bertha grew up in Roll and attended Breezy Meadow schools and graduated from Strong City High School. After high school she attended Clinton Nursing School and became an LPN working for Clinton Regional Hospital.
In the early 30's she was married to Ellis Adams.
In 1962 Bertha Bertha moved to Canadian, Texas going to work for Hemphill County Hospital until her retirement in 1975.
In 1964, she was married to Buster Porter and they made their home in Canadian, Texas.
In 1986 after Buster passed away Bertha moved to Elk City to be with her daughter.
Bertha enjoyed cooking, fishing and camping, reading and crocheting.
She attended Prairie View Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ellis Adams; her second husband, Buster Porter; her parents; one son, Dean Adams; one grandson, Donnie Summit; one son-in-law, Eddie Summit; two stepsons, George Perrin and Bobby Porter; three brothers, Francis, Oral and Clayton Scott; and three sisters, Olive McClellan, Rose Aumond and Ruth Reust.
Bertha is survived by her three sons, George and Sandra Adams of Austin, Texas; Nolan and Yvonne Adams of Okemah, Oklahoma; and Eddie Joe and Joan Adams of Farmington, California; two daughters, Marie and Bob Wilson of Elk City, Oklahoma; and Roberta and Charles Hardin of Elk City, Oklahoma; two daughters-in-law, Maxine Adams of Louisville, Texas; and Nova Adams of Amarillo, Texas; stepson, Michael Porter of Beuna Vista, Texas; eight step daughters, Ida Swanson, Peggy Miller, Mary Joe Languell, Donna Harrel, Debbie Clark, Polly Chaffin, Dianne Hornsby and Marcia Back; twenty four grandchildren; forty nine great grandchildren; one sister Zola Sprowls of San Antonio, Texas; and a host of other step grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Services will be held Friday, March 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Whinery-Savage Chapel officiated by Michael Larsen.
Burial will be at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.
