Artia Mecie Wooley Davis was born in Pike County, Indiana, June the 12th 1886 and departed this life November the 16th, 1942 at her home in Crawford at the age of 56 years, five months and four days.
She was united in marriage to William G. Davis on February 13th, 1899 at Spurgeon, Indiana.
To this union were born six children, all of whom with the father survive. They are Virgil of Roll; Vener and Charlie, both of Crawford; Harley of Indianapolis, Indiana; Mrs. Gertrude Lucas of Durham; and Mrs. Irene Davis of Hillsboro, Oregon.
Mrs. Davis has been confined to her home some sixteen years with rheumatism. She was a loving wife and mother and willingly bore her pain and suffering with patience. Never complaining of the affliction that was her portion in life.
Being a very devout Christian the greater part of her life, she always had a world of encouragement and cheer and a never-to-be-forgotten smile for all who came her way.
Besides her immediate family she leaves to mourn her departure twelve grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers all of Avanville, Indiana. Other relatives who were present were Mrs. Blanche Eberhart of Carter, Oklahoma; Mrs. Etta Cross of Archer City, Texas; Mrs. S. E. Arnold of Canadian, Texas; and Mrs. Ollie Parker; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
