Graveside services for Mrs. Audrey Irene Merritt Blurton, 81, Bethany resident were held at 10:00 a.m., April 1, 2003, Tuesday in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma officiated by Mr. Patrick Peters and under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home.
Audrey Irene Merritt Blurton was born June 26, 1921 to Joseph Henry Merritt and Julia Self Merritt in Roll, Oklahoma and passed away early Saturday morning, March 29, 2003 in the Windsor Hills Nursing Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Blurton was raised in the Roll community and graduated from Crawford High School in 1938.
She married Mr. Rolly Blurton on December 20, 1941 in Sayre, Oklahoma.
They made their home in Cheyenne and Crawford community until they moved to Hobart in 1953. The Blurton's then moved to Oklahoma City in 1962 and she was employed with the John A. Brown Stores. She also worked for a Petroleum Company as an accountant until her retirement in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Naomi Young and Maggie Coryell; and three brothers, W. D. Merritt, Joe Merritt and Ken Merritt.
She is a member of the Church of Christ.
She and her husband loved to travel as long as their health permitted.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy Lyle of Oklahoma City; and a son Ronnie Blurton and his wife, Dianna of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Greg Lyde of Wichita, Kansas; Molly McDonald and husband Bobby Ray of Warner Robins, Georgia; and Randy Blurton of Ft. Worth, Texas; and two great grandchildren, Grant Lyde of Andover, Kansas; and Heath McDonald of Warner Robbins, Georgia.
