Funeral service for Mrs. Maggie E. Hagan Beavin were conducted Thursday by the Rev. Cecil E. Finn of Elk City, Oklahoma.
Requiem Mass was held at the St. Joseph's Catholic church in Cheyenne and services were conducted at the Silent Home cemetery where the remains were laid to rest near the homestead where she had resided in the early days.
With the passing of Mrs. Beavin, Roger Mills county loses one of her pioneers who spent more than 40 years in the development of this county.
Mrs. Beavin came to Roger Mills county with her husband and family in 1901 to make a home in what was then a new country. They filed on a claim near Roll. Here they made their home, first in a half-dugout which later was replaced by a splendid country home as the farm was improved.
In 1927 the Beavins family moved to Cheyenne, which Mrs. Beavin claimed as her home until her passing.
Mrs. Beavin was active in the civic and political development of the county, in her home community she with her husband were instrumental in starting the first school in the district.
Her life was one filled with activity. Her interest was in her home, her community, and her nation. This interest and activity stayed with her until time for her to lay down her life.
The day before her death she attended her church and attended the show at Cheyenne. Death ended her life on her 75th birthday after an illness of less than 24 hours.
Mrs. Beavin was a booster. In the early days she boosted Streeter Township. She boosted her political party. She boosted her friends. She was willing to devote her energy to the promotion of what she believed was right.
From childhood she was a staunch member of the Catholic church and lived her doctrine in her everyday life.
How fitting that her body was laid to rest beneath a mound of beautiful flowers, for in the years gone by before the time of greenhouses, Mrs. Beavin grew flowers for the purpose of giving them to her friends in their hours of sadness.
Maggie E. Beavin was born at Elizabethtown, Kentucky, November 27, 1869 and passed away at the Sayre, Oklahoma hospital, November 27, 1944, at the age of 75 years.
She was married to Frank A. Beavin June 4, 1890. To this union twelve children were born. Three of the children and the husband preceded her in death, Frank A. Beavin; her husband died in 1940.
The children who preceded the mother in death were Frances Reynolds, Willie Beavin and Earnest Beavin.
She is survived by five sons, Hagan of Crawford, Oklahoma; Roy of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Lewis of the Navy; and Paul and Carl of Cheyenne. The four daughters surviving are Virginia Murphy of Crawford; Agnes Bumpus of Ardmore; and Mable Echroat and Esther Kelly, both of Oklahoma City.
