Charles Phenix, retired farmer and rancher of Leedey, died Sunday, July 4, 1948 in Sayre of a cerebral hemorrhage. He died suddenly at the race horse barn Sunday evening.
He was born April 25, 1875 in Missouri and was married there in 1900 to Miss Anna Brewer. She preceded him in death in 1944.
He moved to Leedey 40 years ago and has lived there since that time. He was very prominent in the community and took an active part in the process of the town.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Bast of Beeville, Texas; and Mrs. Nellie Bray of Borger, Texas; five sons, Jim of Borger; Fred and Frank of Leedey; Henry of Delhi; and Sgt. Jack Phoenix stationed at Ocean Side, California.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending arrival of relatives. The funeral services, however, will be held at Leedey and burial will be in the Shirley cemetery, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with the Moore Funeral Home in charge.
