John Douglas Candy Sr.

Wake services for John Douglas Candy Sr., will be at 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the Indian Baptist Church in Hammon. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday at the Hammon Indian Baptist Church, with Rev. Joe Osage and Rev. Max Mahlon officiating.
John Douglas Candy was born June 30, 1932 in Clinton, the son of Roy and Ethel Left Hand Candy, and died February 16, 1988 at his home in Elk City. He was 55 years old.
He attended the Concho Indian School.
From 1952 until 1956 he served in the United States Army in Korea.
At one time, he worked on the Buster Drinnon farm and the Joe Hutchinson farm in Leedey.
Mr. Candy was a member of the Indian Baptist Church and participated in the Native American Church.
His hobby was making Indian crafts.
Mr. Candy had moved to Elk City from Hammon in 1987.
He is survived by his mother, Ethel Candy of Schulter; three sons, John Douglas, Jr. of Lenapah; Daniel Roy of Adair; and David Cox of Loco; three daughters, Joan Candy of Chelsea; Lavonta Brannon of Conway, Arkansas; and Janey Dawn Candy of El Reno; ten grandchildren; one brother, Robert Candy of Hammon; and two sisters, Sally Atchley of Schulter and Eula Lira of Odell, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father, one son, and two sisters.
Burial will be in the Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Savage Funeral Home.
