Betty Joyce Kent Blount

Betty Joyce Kent Blount was born on November 10, 1930 to W. R. "Bill" Kent and Valeska Long Kent. She was born at her grandparents' farm near McClure, Oklahoma.
She passed away on December 16, 2011 in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 6 days.
Betty graduated from Hammon High School in 1949.
She married Clyde Everett Blount, Jr. on December 11, 1949.
They lived in Pampa, Texas for 17 years where they gave birth to four sons and a daughter.
In 1967, they moved to Hammon and she worked at the Flamingo Restaurant in Elk City. She bought the drug store in Hammon in the early 1970's and later owned the Downtowner Café' on Main Street until 1986.
She became the cook for the Hammon Senior Citizens Center and later drove for Red River Transportation until December 9, 2008. She delighted in her customers and loved to talk with each one of them.
She belonged to the Hammon Garden Club.
She was an avid quilter and gardener and especially loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded death by her husband of 38 years, Clyde "Junior" Blount; son, Eddie Lynn Blount; her parents, Bill and Valeska Kent; her brother, Billy Kent and her nephew, Lyndell Kent.
She is survived by sons, Billy Blount and wife, Donna of Clovis, New Mexico; Arlos Finley Blount and wife, Susan of Hammon, Oklahoma; Eldon Blount and wife, Kathy of Carter, Oklahoma; daughter, Trena Trobaugh and husband, Rick of Shattuck, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Arlos Kent and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Hammon United Methodist Church, PO Box 190, Hammon, Oklahoma 73650.
Services will be held Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the A. G. Creach Auditorium officiated by Rev. Rick Trobaugh and Chuck Gilbert.
Burial will be at Red Hill Cemetery under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.
