Funeral services for James Bynum Allen were conducted from the First Baptist Church in Hammon Wednesday, September 7 with Rev. David Flick and Rev. J. C. Neal officiating. Burial followed in the Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Martin Funeral Home.
Mr. Allen was born in Blair on November 22, 1897 and died in the Community Hospital Sunday, September 3 at the age of 85.
He was raised in the Martha-Blair Community.
Mr. Allen worked in the oil industry here in Oklahoma prior to moving to the Pie Flat community in 1929, where he was engaged in farming. In 1961, he moved to Hammon, where he had lived since.
He was married to Eva D. Lewis on March 24, 1920 in Salem, Missouri and she survives him.
Mr. Allen served on the Hammon school board for several years, and was an active member of the Lions Masonic Lodge and the Easter Star for more than 50 years and served in several of the stations in both organizations.
He was an ordained Baptist minister and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hammon.
Survivors include his wife, Eva of the home; one son, James L. Allen of Chickasha, Oklahoma; three daughters, Wanda L. Stalcup of Hammon, Oklahoma; La Verne Walton of Elk City and Sue Flick of Hammon, Oklahoma; one sister, Mrs. Kathleen Crook of Lakewood, California; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
