Ella Rae (Wraye) Mead was born September 26, 1928 in Sweetwater, Oklahoma to Emma (Goodwin) and Walter Irvin Perry Sr. She passed away November 12, 2019 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 17 days.

Wraye moved with her parents and siblings Wilma, Odell, Walter and Geneva in 1933 to the Northern New Mexico in the middle of nowhere. The address was Hickman, New Mexico to the Perry homestead half dugout. Betty and BeeLee were born in New Mexico in the following years. Wraye went to different little schools and graduated 8th grade in Greer, New Mexico. After her daddy died in 1936 they moved north of Pie Town, she then went to high school in Quemado, New Mexico at the age 16, she moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and went to work at Tinker Air Force Base. She later met and married Asher D. Mead, Jr. on November 11, 1949 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Wraye furthered her education in Oklahoma City working at Patricia Stevens Modeling School, modeling and teaching. After retiring, she was very active volunteering in her church. She enjoyed reading to the children weekly. She was always there for anyone in need, nieces, nephews and friends. Wraye loved to travel. Going many years with her sister, Neva and husband Leland as well as various friends. She especially enjoyed the Perry Family reunions, baking and cooking for her family.

Although Wraye is no longer with us, her memory and legacy will be kept alive though the family and friends she leaves behind which include her 2 sisters, Geneva Barlett of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Betty Allen of Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and 3 very important and special friends, Frank and Sue Ogle, and Russell Morgan.

Without their deep and long-lasting friendship Wraye’s life would have not been the same.

Wraye is preceded in death by her husband, A.D. Mead, 3 brothers, Walter, Odell BeeLee Perry and 1 sister, Wilma Fowler.
