"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day."
With these words from Timothy 11 implanted in her heart, Ollie Irene Bell Hatchett McArthur, 89, went home to be with her Lord on November 11, 2004.
Mrs. McArthur was born October 18, 1915 to Dinishia and Page Hatchett in Dustin, Oklahoma.
She married John Aubrey McArthur on December 24, 1932, at Sweetwater, Oklahoma when they owned and operated a dairy farm. To this union four children were born.
Mrs. McArthur was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother.
She was a charter member of the Assembly of God Church in Sweetwater, Oklahoma. She was a very active member in the church where she played the piano, directed singing and taught Sunday School classes.
Irene cherished the gift of friendship and enjoyed sharing her home with others. Many youth activities were held in her home and to all of the children she was known as Memaw. To her, children were a very special gift which was reflected in her love for them and the way they loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two greatgrandchildren; and two brothers.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Tolanda McArthur of Alaque, New Mexico; Laquense and Patsy McArthur of Elk City, Oklahoma; two daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and William J. Ramsey of Lawton, Oklahoma; and Laqueta McArthur Judd of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Saturday, November 13, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Sweetwater Assembly of God Church officiated by J. M. Asley.
Burial will be at Mulberry Cemetery, Sweetwater, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
