Funeral services for Hiram Crockett Ely will be conducted Thursday, November 30, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. from the Sayre Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jack Abbott officiating. Interment will follow in the Dempsey Cemetery, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Sayre.
Hiram Crockett Ely was born December 11, 1921 at Doxey, Oklahoma to Henry and Mary Abney Ely and passed away Tuesday at the age of 78.
He moved with his family to Roger Mills county near Rose Hill where he spent the rest of his life.
Mr. Ely attended Emerson and Berlin School and served his country the U.S. Air Force from August of 1942 until his discharge in February of 1946 as a glider mechanic.
He was married to Laquita Joy Mutschler on October 5, 1953. They have farmed all of their working career.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Laquita Ely of the home; five children, Mary Parkhurst and her husband Charlie of Weatherford; Betty Weichel and her husband Ray of Colony; Jane Edwards and her husband Ronnie of Clarendon, Texas; Cathy Cobb and her husband Gary of Roll, Oklahoma; and W. C. Ely of Stranton, Colorado; his mother in law, Frances Mutschler of Sunray, Texas; twelve grandchildren; three sisters, Jane Schdmith of Sayre, Oklahoma; Frankie Tidwell of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Deaton Williams of Cheyenne; and one brother, Leonard Ely of Elk City, Oklahoma.
