Joe Charles Pyatt was born, July 29, 1938 in
Sayre,
Oklahoma., to Dr. C.E. Pyatt (Doc Pyatt) and Bess Kendall Pyatt. He
entered into heaven March 25, 2026 at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 24
days. He lived in Cheyenne until his parents moved to Yukon, Oklahoma, when
he was three years old. While residing in Yukon, his baby sister, Mary Beth,
was born on his fourth Birthday.
At the age of five, Joe's dad, Doc Pyatt, moved his dental practice to
Kingfisher, Oklahoma where his family resided during the remainder of his
childhood. Joe always considered Kingfisher to be his hometown.
He attended Kingfisher Public Schools, from first grade through his senior
year in High School. During his Junior High and High School years, he played
football, was a member of the choir and played the coronet in the Kingfisher
Jr. High and High School Bands.
He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of ten. When he was
fourteen, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, in the Boy Scouts of America.
During High School he was also a member of DeMolay International, an
organization for teenage young men, sponsored by the Masonic Lodge. During
his high school years, he loved to hunt quail with his Dad. When summer
came, he headed to the lake where his passion for water skiing groomed him
to become one of the best on skis, which he continued until he was 85 years
old, when his health became an issue,
Joe graduated from Kingfisher High School, in 1956. He went on to pursue a
college education by attending Junior College, at Kemper Military Academy,
in Booneville, Missouri After graduating from Junior College, he continued
his formal education by attending Central State University, now known as
UCO, in Edmond. During the time spent at Central State, he learned the art
of Scuba Diving, which became one of his favorite sports. He continued to be
a big fan of water skiing and scuba diving, throughout his adult life, where
he skied for the last time on his 85th Birthday.
Joe was a man who wore many hats. Before graduating from college, Joe chose
to enter the business world, by becoming a salesman for the Fuller Brush
Company. In a few years, he had the opportunity to enter the farming world
where he began operating a Dairy farm, raising black Angus cattle and
growing crops. Later, when the oil industry busted open, he started his own
oilfield rental company with tools which he invented. It was during that
time that he met his future wife, Neva, who also had an oilfield service
company. They were married on June 10th, 1988 and spent the next 37 plus
years together. During those years he was an active member of the Cheyenne
First Baptist Church, serving on different committees including building and
grounds in which he took particular interest.
Each Christmas Joe worked tirelessly decorating the swimming pool at the
Cheyenne city park, always looking forward to what new things he might add
to the display for the community to enjoy. The thousands of dancing lights,
which were programed to the music, were enjoyed by many.
When the Oilfield slowed down, Joe became a licensed Insurance agent and
opened an office in Cheyenne where he had life and health insurance
available as well as annuities. In addition to his insurance business, he
and Neva purchased rental property which he helped maintain and manage. Joe
loved flowers and always had a variety of flowers blooming as soon as the
weather would allow.
In May of 1999, at age 62, Joe was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer
which he battled for the next 25 years.
Joe was blessed with four daughters, Sheryl Bateman, Natalie Townes, Julie
Daniels-Lukins and husband Kevin, Stacey Smith and husband Robert. When he
married Neva, Joe gained three more children, a son, Ron Payne and wife
Judy, Renae Bagzis and husband Michael, and Michelle Knight and husband
Darren; one sister Mary Beth Mahanay of Clinton, Oklahoma, a bonus son,
Lance Bowman. With those children there are 17 Grandchildren and 13 great
grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Dr. C.E. Pyatt, his mother Bess
Pyatt, and son Ron Payne.
