Ray Cole, 88, was born October 13, 1898 on the Washita River in Day County, Oklahoma Territory to James F. and Genia Humphrey Cole and passed away Thursday evening, October 16, 1986 at the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne following an extended illness.
Ray grew up to manhood near Hamburg in Roger Mills county after Day county was abolished in 1907.
He made his home for 82 years on the place where his father homesteaded in the 1892 Cheyenne Arapaho run.
Ray attended the Shaw Country School, the Canadian, Texas public schools, a Baptist Boarding School at Goodnight, Texas and Cordell Christian College, Cordell, Oklahoma.
On October 14, 1939, Ray was married to Faith Owen at Dallas, Texas.
He was a farmer-rancher for 60 years and had been a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church for a number of years.
Those who preceded him in death were his parents, two sisters and one brother.
Survivors include his wife Faith of the home; two sisters, Dorothy Thomas of Durham, Oklahoma; and Hazel Peterson of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two nephews, Gene Johnson and Gordon Thomas; and seven nieces, Linda Gayle Milauk, Neila Padgett, Betty Carmen, Dana Hartley, Georgia Sue Nix, Virginia Stickler and Alice Cristy.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 18, 1986 at 2:30 p.m. in The First Baptist Church of Reydon with A. L. Martin and Ernest Ashcraft officiating.
Interment followed in the Cheyenne Cemetery under the Direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Cheyenne.
Pallbearers were Clyde Earle, Bryan Berry, Howard Metcalfe, Wayne Sadler, Thoral Shaw and Lloyd Hammond.
