Funeral services for William L. (Bill) Chalfant, Cheyenne, car dealer and rancher, who died of a heart attack Tuesday, October 7, 1969 in his home were held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the United Methodist church with Rev. Eddie Ditterline, of El Paso, Texas, Rev. Roy Weaver, Cheyenne, officiating.

Born November 9, 1893 at Alvin, Texas, Mr. Chalfant came to Cheyenne in 1916 from Clinton.

He was married April 9, 1917, to Laura Warren in Cheyenne. He was engaged in the grain and elevator business for over 30 years. In earlier days he was promoter of good roads and president of the First Good Roads Association of Roger Mills County; promoter of telephone service and instrumental in obtaining phone service to rural Roger Mills County.

As a member of the Methodist church he served on the building board for the construction of the church and parsonage.

At the time of his death he was city council treasurer, Cheyenne Utility Trust Secretary-treasurer, Minnie R. Slief Library board president, the Western Plains Library Systems board member, charter member and first president of the Cheyenne Kiwanis club and Old Timers Association of the Cheyenne and Arapaho county president. He was 32nd degree member of the Masonic lodge.

Survivors are his wife of the home; three sons, J. Warren and Billy, Cheyenne, and Wesley of Midland, Texas; and one daughter, Mrs. James (Jean) Jack, Sulphur; Ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
