Funeral services for Gertrude "Gertie" Betty Coffey were held Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the Rose Chapel with Ray Smart officiating. Burial was in the Brookside Cemetery, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
Gertie, the daughter of Regina and Ray Thompson, was born November 13, 1921, in Crofton, Nebraska and passed away August 17, 2003 in her home in Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years, nine months and four days.
Gertrude moved with her family to Oklahoma as an infant in 1922. They lived at Cotton Store near the Grimes community and she attended Brookside and Sweetwater School.
She was married to Oscar Wesley Coffey at Bulo, Oklahoma on March 21, 1940.
They lived east of Cotton store for several years until moving north of Sweetwater where they remained for over 40 years until Buster passed away.
She stayed at the home north of Sweetwater for a short time until moving to Sayre to make her home.
Gertrude loved her cat, Thomas, and enjoyed her neighbors in Sayre, especially Bob and Lela Belle Spitzer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one sister, Clara Clawson of Farmington, New Mexico; one brother, Orville Bartz of Elk City, Oklahoma; her nephew, Robert Clawson and wife Wanda of Farmington, New Mexico; and Calvin Weiss of Corpus Christi, Texas.
