Funeral services for Clifford M. Macklin will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. at Erick First Baptist Church with Charlie Floyd and Bro. Carl Hein officiating. Burial will be at Berlin Cemetery, Berlin, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Fathree-Albert Funeral Home of Erick.
Clifford H. Macklin was born December 5, 1946 in Sayre to Louise and Vernon Macklin and died Monday, November 3, 2003 at his home north of Erick at the age of 56.
He grew up in the Bulo community where he attended school until the 8th grade and then Sweetwater High School, graduating in 1964. He attended Sayre Junior College for a year before entering the U.S. Army in 1966.
Clifford served his country during the Vietnam War.
He was married to Kay Hagerman at Erick on September 11, 1967 and they lived at Ft. Hood, Texas. After his discharge in 1968 they moved to Winfield, Kansas and he was the Assistant Manager for the C.R. Anthony store.
They returned to Oklahoma in 1969 and Clifford continued his education at Sayre Junior College and then Southwestern Oklahoma State Weatherford where he gained his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees and received his Superintendant's Cerificate from Oklahoma State University. Clifford taught 6th grade at Hinton School before becoming the elementary school principal and later was the high school Principal.
They returned to Erick in January of 1978 and opened the C&K Quick Stop. Later that year, Clifford began his 25 year career with the Erick school where he served as a teacher, Elementary School Principal and for the last twelve years was the Superintendent until his retirement in July of this year.
Clifford was very active in the Erick community where he attended the Erick First Baptist Church, was a member of the Erick Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of the 100th Meridian Museum. Clifford was also a member of many profesional education organizations and was Vice President of K12-Plus Software Company.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Kay of the home; two children, Shella Thornton and husband, Billy of Elk City; and Sean Clay Macklin and wife, Tiffany of Byers, Texas; seven grandchildren; his mother, Louise Macklin of Erick; his mother-in-law, Myrtle Hagerman of Weatherford; three sisters-in-law, Orvilla Schantz and husband, Stanley of Weatherford; Dianna Mosburg and husband, John of Sayre; and Brenda Johnson and husband, Jerry of Weatheford; two brothers-in-law, Butch Hagerman and wife, Joan of Sayre; and Clifford Hagerman and wife, Pam of Canute; and a host of other relatives and friends.
