Carolyn Sue Rhoades Chalfant

Carolyn Sue Rhoades Chalfant was born March 12, 1947 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Imogene and Weldon Rhoades.
She passed away June 18, 2012 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 6 days.
She graduated from Berlin High School.
Carolyn later graduated from Southwestern State College with a degree in Pharmacy.
She moved to Sweetwater, Texas and later to Elk City, Oklahoma where she ran the pharmacy at Humpty Dumpty. She then purchased the Maley Pharmacy in Sayre and renamed it the Family Pharmacy, where she raised her four children.
After she closed the pharmacy in 1992 she began working for Eddie Tom Lakey at the Cheyenne Drug and City Pharmacy in Sayre for 18 years and after Jaclyn bought the Cheyenne Drug she would help her on a part time basis.
She was married to James Warren Chalfant, Jr. at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on December 6, 1996 and they made their home in Strong City.
Carolyn grew up helping her parents on the farm.
She was a star athlete for the Berlin Broncos excelling in basketball and track.
She was a member of the Roger Mills County 4-H Club where she served as secretary, participating in many activities and winning numerous awards. Carolyn was an outstanding horsewoman and rider and was an expert at training horses.
She also had an artistic side to her type A personality playing piano, singing and drawing.
She was devoted to her kids and could always be counted on to assume the title coach. Carolyn coached her kids in basketball, gymnastics, and softball. After seeing her kids graduate she then focused her coaching abilities on her growing grandchildren.
Her strong faith in God and love of her family gave her the strength to battle the disease that would finally claim her.
She was a member of the Sayre Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Grant Weldon Rhoades and her twin brother, Phillip Warren Rhoades.
She is survived by her husband, Jay of the home; three daughters, Gena Mae Bryan and husband Tim of Sayre, Oklahoma; Jaclyn C. Stephens and husband Rob of Elk City, Oklahoma; Brooke Buckner and husband Dakota of Sayre, Oklahoma; one son, Brandon Hodge and wife Tami of Sayre, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Chaz, Faith, Alister, Daylon, Kadence, Wiley, Remi, Tennessee and Lucas; and three more on the way; four step sons; nine step grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation scheduled Tuesday, 6/19, 3-9 Wednesday, 6/20, 9-9 Thursday, 6/21, 9-Noon.
Burial in Berlin Cemetery.
