Nelona {Nellie Iona} Barnes Campbell

Nelona {Nellie Iona} Barnes Campbell was born on July 6, 1928, in Springfield, Colorado, to Nellie and James Harrison Barnes.
She passed away April 16, 2011, in Sayre, Oklahoma.
The family moved back to Grimes, Oklahoma, where Nelona attended school at Rose Hill and graduated in 1946 from Berlin High School.
She married Kenneth Dale "Chub" Campbell on November 21, 1946.
They raised their family and lived in the Berlin area.
Services were held today, Wednesday April 20, 2011 at the Sayre Church of Christ officiated by Shane Coleman.
Burial was at Berlin Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Condolences can be made online at www.whineryfs.com
Nelona was a devoted homemaker and excellent seamstress. She and Chub owned and operated the Berlin General Store. She also worked as a Nurse's Aid in Town Hall Nursing Home.
She was an active member of the Berlin Quilting Club and the Berlin Homemakers Club. She was very involved in 4-H activities and school activities. She and Chub enjoyed Blue Grass Music Festivals and attending Family reunions, Old Settler's Reunions, Fairs and Tractor Shows. She also collected dolls.
Nelona gave many gifts that included her handicrafts. She pieced and quilted a large number of quilts, made pillows, sewed garments, embroidery work made dolls of all kinds and spent many hours at her sewing machine.
She loved being with her grandchildren and showing them skills such as making homemade bread and gardening. She was well known for her loaves of bread and cinnamon rolls.
Nelona was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Dale Campbell; her sisters, Gertrude Zigler and Faye Heim; and brothers, Hobart Barnes, John Barnes and Norman Barnes.
She is survived by her children, Nelda Tucker and husband Tommy of Sweetwater; James Campbell and wife, DeLayne of Sayre; and Connie Whitmore and husband, Wayne of Coyle, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Lisa Bowman and husband, Greg; Monte Tucker and wife, Daniel; Ben Perkins; Jeremiah Campbell and wife, Lori; Jamey Campbell; and Justin Whitmore and Carra Crow and husband, Brandon.
She was very proud of her ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Jewel Barnes of Wichita, Kansas; and Roma Barnes of McLoud, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
