Funeral services for Don Vernon Barnes were conducted Saturday, April 23, 2011 from the Martin Funeral Chapel of Elk City with Elder Mike Minson officiating.
Interment will be in the Berlin Cemetery under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home. An online registry is available at www.martinfhoke.com.
Don Vernon Barnes was born February 25, 1918, at Berlin, Oklahoma, to Joe Studebaker and Alta Eggleston Barnes and passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the age of 93.
He graduated from Berlin High School and was married to Colene Campbell on December 14, 1937 at Sayre.
They lived in the Herring Community, Strong City, Ft. Worth, Texas, and moved to Moore, Oklahoma, in 1986 and have lived in the Oklahoma City area since.
Mr. Barnes was a commissary manager at air force bases as a vocation.
He served his country in the US Army.
Mrs. Barnes preceded him in death in 2004 and he was also preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
Survivors include two children, Donna Prough of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Gary Barnes and his wife Wanda of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Scott Knight, Jeffrey Knight, Brandi Rauch, Amanda Barnes and Jennifer Barnes; and six great grandchildren.
