Bernice Myra Milan Ballou

Bernice Myra Milan Ballou was born May 14, 1916 in Rocky, Oklahoma to Berthya M. Milan and Joseph Milan. She died December 19, 2000 in the Great Plains Regional Medical Center at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 5 days.
She was married to Lawrence W. Ballou at Indianapolis, Indiana on August 16, 1936.
They lived in Indianapolis until 1937 when they moved to Los Angeles, California where their oldest daughter Janice was born. They worked in a defense plant during World War II. After the war was over, they moved to Centerville, Washington where they lived for two years. They moved back to California for a short time, then moved to Cheyenne, Oklahoma on January 1, 1948. Kirk Ballou and Debra Ballou Lewis were born in Oklahoma and raised on the farm near Cheyenne.
Bernice loved her family, friends and her dog, Lucy.
She was an avid gardener and was never happier than when working in her flowers or garden. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and painting. She finished her last painting about three weeks ago.
Family gatherings were important to Bernice.
She was a member of the Cheyenne Church of Christ where she had many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ted Milan; her husband of sixty-four years, Larry; and twin baby boys.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Jack and Janice Thompson of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Kirk and Marsha Ballou of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Debra and Kit Lewis of Duke, Oklahoma; two brothers, Peter "Butch" Milan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Dr. Joe Milan of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Joan Ellison of Sayre, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Friday, December 22, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Cheyenne Church of Christ, officiated by Kendall Abner.
Burial was at Berlin Cemetery, Berlin, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.
