John Davis Underwood

John Davis Underwood, a lifetime resident of the Antlers area, passed from this life on June 15, 2020 in Antlers, Oklahoma at the age of 93.

He was born in Antlers on December 6, 1926 to John Underwood and Tina (Gibson) Underwood. John married Dovie Shilling on May 20, 1955 in Los Angeles, California. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, with his service spanning from WWII, to the Korean War and the VietNam conflict before his retirement. After his time in the Navy, John loved to coach girls' softball and set up at the flea market with his wife, Dovie.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dovie Underwood; son: Jim Underwood; and two brothers: Louie Underwood and Val Underwood.

John is survived by his daughter: Ellen Meshaya and husband Preston of Finley, Oklahoma; brother: Harrison Underwood of Gallup, New Mexico; and grandchildren: John Spurlock, Shane Meshaya, Codie Birdsong, Danny Underwood, Morgan Spurlock, Gabby Birdsong, Ethan Birdsong, Kate Underwood, and Ashlynn Underwood.

Services for John will be held Saturday, June 20, 2020, at 2PM at the Finley Baptist Church with Shane Meshaya officiating. Interment will follow at Finley Cemetery.

Visitation will take place at Serenity Funeral Service on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 12PM to 8PM. Pallbearers include John Spurlock, Danny Underwood, Dave Underwood, Steve Painter, Jimmy Morehead, and Doc Darst. Services are under the direction of Serenity Funeral Service of Antlers, Oklahoma.
