Curtis Wayne Lawless, 72, passed away Tuesday, January 31st, 2017 at his home in Antlers, Oklahoma.

Curtis was born March 1st, 1944 to Wayne and Sirena Hensley Lawless in Ethel Oklahoma, the only son and oldest of 6 children. He graduated from Antlers High School in 1961. He attended college for some time at Eastern Oklahoma State at Wilburton, but decided to cut his education short to marry his high school sweetheart, Lena Faye Wade. Curtis married his beautiful bride on July 15th, 1963, and they remained in the Antlers area to raise their family.
Over his life, Curtis had several careers: he was a rancher throughout his life; he was a truck driver; he was a sawyer; he retired from the Antlers Volunteer Fire Department and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority. But more importantly, he was a Christian husband, father and friend. Curtis loved the Lord and the Lords creation, spending much of his time in the garden or in the woods. He was a humble man who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He worked hard all his life and gave his all at whatever endeavor he took on. He believed in both living up to our God given responsibilities and defending our God given freedoms that have been given to all, and he set that example for his family and all who knew him.

Curtis is survived by his wife, Lena; son Brian (Donna) Lawless; daughter Rebecca (Todd) Crawford; son Jason (Sari) Lawless; grandsons Thomas, John and Jackson Lawless, and Wil Crawford; granddaughters Jaci and Shelby Lawless, and Elizabeth Crawford; and great-grandson Maddox Shaver; sisters Barbara (Mike) Nabors, Mary (Mark) Virden, Charlotte Lawless, Connie (Jesse) Moses and Donna (Tim) Stone; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and extended family.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents.

Family Night will be held on Thursday, February 2nd, 2017 at Burkhart Funeral Home in Antlers from 6 to 7 pm. Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 3rd at the Antlers Cemetery at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Antlers Volunteer Fire Department. Those wishing to provide written memorials may do so online at www.burkhartfuneralservice.com.
