Charlene Joann Whittington, 80, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed from this life Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at her home.

She was born April 8, 1939 to John Will and Martha (Ellis) Edwards in Concho, Oklahoma.

Charlene was raised in the rural Seminole County area.?? She graduated with the class of 1956 from Prairie Valley High School.

She married Bill Whittington in 1964 in Dallas, Texas and he preceded her in death in 1999.

After high school she moved to Dallas, Texas and worked for the City of Dallas before going to work for the public school system where she retired after 27 years of service.?? In 1999 she moved to Shawnee where she has since lived.

Charlene was a proud member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe.?? She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her grandsons were the focal point of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Whittington; her parents, John and Martha Edwards; 3 brothers, John L. Edwards, James L. Edwards and Glen W. Edwards; and 1 sister, Cheryl Edwards-Kennedy.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Randy Smith of Shawnee, OK; 2 grandchildren, Taylor Smith and Skyler Smith; 2 great-grandchildren, Cash and Beckett Smith; 2 sisters, Atheda Fletcher of Shawnee, OK and Gilreath Lucy Godwin of Knoxville, IA; numerous nieces, nephews; and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2020.?? Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2020 at Johnson Cemetery in Shawnee with Alan Colbert and George Blanchard officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
