James Benjamin Sloan

James Benjamin Sloan, 89, of Little Axe, Oklahoma passed from this life Monday, April 27, 2020 in Meeker, Oklahoma.

He was born March 18, 1931 to Frank and Agnes (Sloat) Sloan in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

James was raised in Little Axe and graduated from Haskell Institute.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with the 187th Airborne Division as a paratrooper in the Korean War serving three tours of duty until he was honorably discharged.

James married Rosetta Tucker on December 9, 1971 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

He worked as an electrician for the Oklahoma State Health Department, as a water treatment specialist and taught water treatment at Okmulgee. He retired from civil service with the Absentee Shawnee Tribe.

James was a proud member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and a member of the Shawnee VFW. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and wood crafting.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Belinda, Carnell; daughter-in-law, Luanne Nichols; his parents, Frank and Agnes Sloan; sisters, Vergie Longhorn and Helen Martel; and brothers, Ted Sloan, Wendell Sloan and Tom Sloan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rosetta Sloan of the home; 2 sons, Michael and Janie Nichols of Bethel Acres, OK and Timothy Nichols of Midwest City, OK; 2 daughters, Cynthia and Gary Robertson of Prague, OK and Sharlet and Bruce Flick of Meeker, OK; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; 3 sisters, Marjorie Kaniatobe, Jenifer Sloan and Estelene Schulenberg; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at Cooper Funeral Home. Private Family Graveside Services will be held at Tecumseh Cemetery with Reverend Clint Dawkins, Sharon Baptist Church officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
