Shawnee - Shawnee resident Daniel Columbus, 65, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at a local hospital.

Wake services will be 7:00 P.M. Friday, June 11, at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 12, at St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Joseph Schwarz officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Daniel was born November 2, 1955 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Andrew Columbus and Carmel (Vasquez) Columbus. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1974 and later attended Oscar Rose Junior College.

He served 12 years in the U.S. Army National Guard doing basic training at Ft. Polk and being stationed at Ft. Sam Houston.

Daniel married Mary (Taylor) on November 28, 2010.

He served at the Absentee Shawnee Chief of Police before joining the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Department in 2008 where he was on the Warrant Team. He also worked part-time for the U.S. Marshal Service, during this time and retired in 2017. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Oklahoma Sheriffs Association. He was an amazing father and papa and loved golfing, bowling, and his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Andrew Columbus, Jr., and a sister: Carmelita Duncan.

Survivors include his Wife: Mary Columbus of the home, 3 Children: Joseph Columbus of Ft. Worth, TX, Andrea Columbus of Shawnee, Matthew Columbus of Ft. Worth, TX, Step Children: Kristi Hix and husband Dennis, Brandon Marker, Jarrod Marker, all of Shawnee, Grandchildren: Bryce Lawrence of Metairie, Louisiana, Kirby Columbus of Ft. Worth, Tx, Rowan Columbus of Ft. Worth, Tx, Jodin Columbus of Ft. Worth, Tx, Jace Hix, Jaxon Hix, Aryanah Marker, and Brooks Marker of Shawnee, 3 sisters: Velia Lackey of Tulsa, Loretta Windsor of Shawnee, Elizabeth Wall of Indiana, Mike Heatley and wife Tracy and Ricky Brown, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
