Phyllis Arlene (Bell) Goddard went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 5, 2020. She was born November 13, 1929 to Lawrence R. Shaffer and Helen Esther Gladman Shaffer in Arkansas City, KS. She lived there until she and her husband, Joe Wells and their 4 children moved to Oklahoma City in 1962.

Arlene went to work in 1964 at Western Electric, later Lucent, as a layout operator and remained there until her retirement in 1991.

She moved to Shawnee, OK in 1983. Later in life she joined the fellowship at New Hope Baptist Church and met her husband, Jvon Bell. They resided there until 2010 when she returned to Oklahoma City to be near her children after he passed away. She was an avid gardener and loved working in her yard and was proud of her beautiful flower beds, but family was the most important part of her life.

After moving back to Oklahoma City, she became a member of Kelham Baptist Church and was very active in their senior’s ministries along with her husband, Walter Goddard.

Her children and grandchildren were very much an important part of her life. She is survived by her husband Walter; daughter, Diana Mooney (Jerry); sons, Michael Wells (Joni), Kevin Wells, and Brian Wells (Susan); step-daughter, Janice Bell Morgan (Brent); step-sons, Mark Bell (Sherri), Kenneth Goddard, Glen Goddard (Kathy) and Dale Goddard; two sisters, Lucille Hinman, Pueblo, CO, and Jeannette Carter, Everett, WA. She leaves numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as several great-great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother, Eugene Shaffer, and former husband, Jvon Bell.

Viewing will be Tuesday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 11, 10:00am at Kelham Baptist Church with interment in New Hope Cemetery, Tecumseh, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Kelham Baptist Church, Oklahoma City.
