R. W. "DUB" HAMPTON
1936 - 2016

R. W. “Dub” Hampton, 80, of Tecumseh, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016 in Oklahoma City.
Dub was born July 5, 1936 to Dee and Tina Mae Mason Hampton in Porum, Oklahoma.
He was raised in Arkansas and has lived in Tecumseh since 1971.
Dub was a veteran and proudly served his country in the United States Marines.
His occupation and passion was truck driving. He was a truck driver for over 30 years and his buddies knew him as “Cool Cushion” on the CB radio. He met Pokey Gilbert at the Commercial Truck Stop in Los Angeles, CA in 1958. He drove many decades for Gilbert and Sons Trucking of Tecumseh, Oklahoma. When he couldn’t drive anymore due to his health you could find him around the table in the shop at Gilbert and Sons Trucking drinking coffee and telling stories.
Dub loved the International Finals Youth Rodeo, especially the stalling committee where he would go each year so he could visit with all the rodeo contestant’s that came in to the Expo Center from around the United States.
He would travel each year over to the Pottawatomie County Fair and the Pottawatomie County Junior Livestock show over the years to watch Dustie and Annie Jo show; whether it was their horses or livestock he was always there to cheer them on. When they would do well in “his opinion” you could see him pull out a $2 bill to hand them and say “you did a pretty good job today”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Woodrow Hampton, L.D. Hampton and Robert Hampton and one sister, Anna Mae Hampton.
Dub is survived by one brother, Phillip Hampton of Dardanelle, Arkansas; three sisters, Dorothy Davidson of Lake Isabell, California, Freda Hampton of Dardanelle, Arkansas, twin sister to Anna, Ina Fay Hampton of Dardanelle, Arkansas and Wanda Grable of Pond, California; extended family, Pokey Gilbert, Randy and Suzanne Gilbert, Dustie Baker and Annie Jo Gilbert and many friends.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016 and 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2016 and continue until time of service.
Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 28, 2016 at Tecumseh Cemetery with Reverend Tony Peak, Tecumseh First Baptist Church officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
