CLARA MOTLEY EDWARDS
1910 - 1997


Shawnee resident Clara Motley Edwards died Thursday at her residence. She was 86.
Mrs. Edwards was born December 26, 1910, in Macomb, to Bob and Mattie Motley.
She was born into an early Oklahoma pioneer family. Her mother participated in the Oklahoma land run that opened land in the Shawnee area and her father was a U. S. marshal in this area.
She attended Anderson School.
She married Tom Edwards on March 5, 1940.
Mrs. Edwards was a lifelong resident of the area and lived in Shawnee the past sixty years. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, and she worked in child care at that church. She was involved in church and senior citizens activities.
Survivors include her son, Stephen G. Edwards of Tulsa and Oklahoma City; a granddaughter, Tiffany Edwards of San Marcos, Texas; and her mother, Gail Lucas Edwards, of Dallas, Texas; two nieces and their spouses, Donna and Dewey McLin of Tecumseh; and June and Bob Warrick of Fairfax, Virginia; a special great-nephew and his spouse, Mr. and Mrs. Doug McLin of Ponca City; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Davis of Bloomington, Minnesota; great nephews and nieces, Berry Kirkendall and Denise Kirkendall, both of the Tulsa area; Randel Motley of Frankton, Texas; Rhonda Motley of Houston, Texas; great-great nephew, Spencer McLin of Ponca City; and a special family friend, Rex M. Ball of Tulsa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Edwards; one brother, Pete Motley; one sister, Thelma Motley Castro; one nephew, Bob Motley and a special great-nephew, Mitch McLin.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Bill Matthews officiating.
Burial will be at the Tecumseh Cemetery.
