Lela Mae Woods Vass

Lela May Vass, passed away Saturday, January 05, 2019 in Seminole at the age of 100.

Lela, the daughter of Charles and Leora (Risenhoover) Woods, was born on November 7, 1918 in Seminole. Lela worked as a beautician before going to work at Tinker Field, where was a jet engine mechanic. She married Thurman Vass on March 30, 1935. Lela and Thurman enjoyed going dancing together, she also enjoyed fishing, however Lela’s favorite pastime was playing bingo.

Lela was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Charles Vass and Tommy Vass; and her two brothers, Nova Woods and Dell Woods.

She is survived by her son, Jerry and Rhonda Vass; Daughter, Judy Smith; Daughter-in-Law: Carol Vass; 10 grandchildren; Several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; Two sisters, Maudi Morrison and Norma Revis; Several nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

A funeral service will be Wednesday, January 9 at 2:00 PM, at the chapel of the Little Cemetery north of Seminole, with Pastor Juanita Moreland officiating. Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service in Shawnee.
