Jack Marchant

Jack Marchant, 81, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 in Shawnee.

He was born November 10, 1937 to John and Sarah (Grantham) Marchant in Omega, Georgia.

Jack was raised in Georgia and Florida. After high school he joined the United States Air Force on June 16, 1959. Jack proudly served his country until his retirement and honorable discharge as a Master Sergeant on August 1, 1980. He was stationed on bases in Florida, California, Kansas, and Oklahoma. Jack served in Vietnam and completed missions in Iceland, Japan, Taiwan and Germany.

He married Grace E. Rhoades on April 5, 1964 in Florida and she preceded him death on May 12, 2014 after 50 years of marriage.

After his retirement from the military he farmed, drove a school bus for McLoud Public Schools and went back into civil service retiring for the second time in 1999.

Jack enjoyed vegetable gardening and made a large garden every year and loved sharing his vegetables with his friends, neighbors and family. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid outdoors man, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. Jack also enjoyed collecting and tinkering with tractors, especially his tractor he named Elvis, since it seemed to always shake, rattle and roll.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace Marchant; and his parents, John and Sarah Marchant.

Survivors include 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, David and Darleeta Marchant of Shawnee, OK and James and Beth Marchant of Shawnee, OK; 5 grandchildren, Kasey Marchant, John Marchant, Kyle Spears, Sarah Blalock and Shelby Blalock; 5 great-grandchildren, John Marchant, Jr., Carter Marchant, Hermione Tiger, Fallon Cain and Stella Bailey; 2 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Jane and Marvin Walker of Mascotte, FL and Linda and John Swider of Melbourne, FL; 1 brother and 1 sister-in-law, James and Mary Beth Marchant of Ocoee, FL; and other extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Kent Garton, John Marchant, Darrell Walker, Randy Garton, Leon Garton and Howard Parsons.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2019 and from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019. Family gathering to greet friends and family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2019 at Cooper Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be 3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Dale Cemetery with Reverend Clint Dawkins, Sharon Baptist Church officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
