Doris Jean Cooper, age 93, passed away peacefully June 21, 2020 due to congestive heart failure. She was born August 26, 1926 in Tecumseh, Oklahoma to Jesse Maynard and Leota Izora Sharp. She was married to Thomas R. Cooper who preceded her in death in 2004.

Doris loved reading, crocheting, crossword puzzles, traveling, and chocolate. In her later years, she loved going to church and reading her Bible – sharing inspirational passages to anyone she came across.

During WW2, Doris was employed at Tinker Air Force base working on planes. She was small enough to crawl into the nose of the aircraft to install electrical wires. She also worked at the FAA in Oklahoma City as a data entry specialist. She continued as a data specialist for many years for the State of Oklahoma Welfare data services department from where she retired in 1988.

After getting involved in a neighborhood Bible group and going back to church she stated that she “wandered in the desert for 40 years” and was baptized at the age of 88. She lived out the rest of her life studying God’s word. Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Doris is survived by two of her brothers, Bernard Sharp of Shawnee and Darrell Sharp of Mannford, and was preceded in death by her sister, Beryl Ann Herriman, and brothers, Maynard Sharp, Cecil Sharp and Keith Allen Sharp. She is also survived by her four children and their spouses: son – Harlan and Glenda Cooper, daughter – Lynna and Tommy Whiteside, daughter – Karen and Rich Pennington, son – T.R. and Jeri Cooper; by her stepdaughter and spouse – Pat and Buck Jones; her grandchildren: Leah and Elliot Westra, Tiara and Bryan Hodges, Richie Pennington, Amanda Stephenson, Tom Cooper, and Tasha Cooper; plus 7 great-grandchildren. All of these she loved and touched deeply.

Please join us celebrating her life at a graveside service on Saturday morning June 27, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at Dale Cemetery, 33500 45th Street, McLoud, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held on June 26, 2020 at 4:00pm at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City.

The family requests that if you are planning on attending the visitation or the graveside service, please practice social distancing and wear face masks because of the vulnerable relatives that may be in attendance.
