Joan Lafern Gentry Allen

Joan Lafern Allen, 85, of Maud, Oklahoma passed from this life Tuesday, July 5, 2022 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

She was born August 6, 1936 in Maud, Oklahoma to Butler Day and Esther (Armstrong) Gentry.

Joan grew up in Crossville, Illinois where she attended school and graduated from Crossville High School.

She married Billy Allen in 1956 in Crossville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1984. Joan lived in several places with Billy’s work in Texas and Kansas, later moving to Maud in 1970 where they made their home, where she has lived in the same home for the last 52 years.

Joan and Billy owned and operated A-Mart Furniture in Seminole and Allen Appliance in Tecumseh until she retired. She also worked several years at Western Sizzlin in Seminole and over 20 years for the Maud Senior Citizen Center as the head cook.

She pastored with Billy at Prayer Mission in Maud and later at Community Church of God in Shawnee. Joan enjoyed going to the lake, fishing, and sewing in her younger days. She enjoyed puzzles, word finds, being a collector of all things, going on little day trips, going to town, and attending family functions.

She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Allen; and her parents, Butler Day and Esther and Leonard Gentry.

Those left to cherish her memory are 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Randy and Alayne Allen of Shawnee, OK, Steve and Barbara Allen of Tecumseh, OK and Jeffrey Allen of Maud, OK; 8 grandchildren, Brandy and Jimmy Ipock, Rantz and Tiffany Allen, Keelan and Greg Dodson, Crystal LaFrance, Katrina and David Shaw, Sheena and Travis Tracy, Andy Allen, and Elijah Allen; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 2 aunts, Jean Lytle of Maud, OK and Jean Armstrong of Borger, TX; 1 brother, Bill “Sonny” Sims of Ratliff City, OK; 2 nieces, Wendy Stone and Sauney Davis; and numerous extended family and loving friends.

Visitation will be 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2022 and continue through service time. Service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Open Door Church of God, 1200 N. Tucker, Shawnee, OK with Pastor James Douglas and Reverend David Shaw officiating. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, OK under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
