Glenda Carol Carpenter, 82, lifelong Shawnee resident, passed away Thursday, December 25th, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family
She was born October 9, 1943 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Leo Ellis and Lucille Daugherty. She grew up in the Shawnee, Tecumseh area and graduated from Earlsboro High School in 1961. She later attended Gordon Cooper, where she took clerical and computer courses.
Glenda worked as a secretary for Shawnee Medical Center, Unzers Family Circle child placement services, and for the Absentee Shawnee Tribe as the Election Secretary. She was a longtime member of Sallateeska Indian Baptist Church, where she served for many years as the church secretary. She was a proud member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe.
She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with her loving family. She enjoyed listening to her country music, especially George Strait, and her gospel tapes. She loved attending worship with her Sallateeska church family and was a member of the singing group "Uplifting Hands".
Glenda is preceded in death by; her parents, Leo Ellis and Lucille Masquat; her sister, Clara Jean Whiteshirt; and her grandson, Jeffrey Lee Frye.
Those left to cherish her memory are; daughter, Cynthia Carpenter of the home; daughter, Jacqueline Denny and spouse Roderick Harrison of Shawnee; sister, Kay Wallace of Meeker; sister, Mary Lou Johnson and husband Grayling of Shawnee; grandchildren; Aaron Tiger and wife Nicole, and Whitney Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Aleayana Johnson, Kortlynn Carpenter, Madelynn Tiger, Zachariah Tiger, and Lilliana Tiger; numerous nieces and nephews who were all very special to her, as well as numerous other family and friends.
A wake service will be held at Jackie's home, 19702 Brangus Road, Shawnee, OK at 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, December 28, 2025. Funeral Service will be 10:00 am, Monday, December 29, 2025 at Sallateeska Indian Baptist Church with Pastor Don Acker officiating. Burial will follow at the Masquat Family Cemetery, Shawnee, OK under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
