Graveside services for Georgia May Suther Haney, 82, of Ada are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015 at Rosedale Cemetery, Roy Deering will officiate.
She passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2015 at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born Nov. 2, 1932 in Dougherty, OK to James E. Suther and Goldie May Baker Suther. Georgia attended schools in Dougherty and Sulphur. She received her bachelor and master degrees in education from East Central University in Ada.
She and J. D. Haney were married Feb. 3, 1951. They established J. D.’s Café in Ada in 1955. She also taught in the Homer School System and the Ada City School System, where she was instrumental in the establishment of the Washington School Library. Following her retirement from teaching, she opened Georgia’s Gift Shop located at J.D.’s Café.
She is survived by three children, all of Ada. Daughter, Susan Gurley and husband Jim; sons, Doug Haney and wife Susan and David Haney and wife Dianna; six grandchildren, Stephanie Gurley Duke of Ada, Shane Gurley and wife Christi of Prosper, TX, Monica Haney Maley and husband Zack of Norman, Jeremy Haney and wife Amy of Oklahoma City, Mandy Simmons of Ada and Taryn Haney of Ada; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Betty Suther of Dallas, TX, Eva Harp of Gordonville, TX, Dorothy Suther of Sulphur, Mary Carper and husband Bill of Davis, and Susan Christian of Stonewall; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a good friend, Billy Mitchell of Kaufman, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Jimmy Suther and Bob Suther.
