Services for JL “Dusty” Rhodes, 87, of Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at High Hill Baptist Church, Rev. Frank Trent will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m.Monday, January 17 at Criswell Funeral Home.
He passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at his home. He was born May 4, 1934 in Pittsburg County to James Luther and Nellie Mae Haines Rhodes.
He married Celestine “Kris” Jordan, March 17, 1988. Mr. Rhodes was Director of Housing for the Chickasaw Nation. He played professional minor league baseball for the Aberdeen Pheasants, the farm team for the Baltimore Orioles and later for the Ada Herefords. He enjoyed playing country and western music professionally for over 50 years.
Survivors are his wife, Kris, of the home; two daughters, Jaye Lynn Anderson, of Ada, and Kari Dilbeck and husband, Matt, of Collinsville, OK; two sons, Jeremy Sellers and wife, Tammy, of Ada, and Jerome Sellers and wife Angie, of Collinsville; one sister-in-law, Betty Rhodes, of Okmulgee; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Loran, Buford and Chester Rhodes; and three sisters, Ella Jacobs, Annie Mae Suiter and Gwendolyn Rhodes.
Bearers will be Jerry Duncan, Bennie Kubiak, Cliff Trent, Kevin Andrews, Tom Hurley and Boyd Cox. Honorary bearers are Sid Manuel, Curt Canada, Charles Archer, Larry Large, Farrell Large, David Foster and Pake McEntire.
