Services for George Michael “Mike” Gilliam, 68, of Ada, will be 2:00 pm Friday at Central Church of Christ, 820 S. Stadium Drive, Ada, followed by a short graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery. Bud Ross will officiate.

George Michael Gilliam died in his home on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in Ada due to complications following his battle with cancer. “Mike,” as he was known by, was born on July 24, 1946 in Ada to his parents, George Gilliam and Mildred Gross Gilliam. He graduated from Coalinga High School in Coalinga, California in 1964.

He married LaDonna Gale Welch on June 10, 1966 and spent 47 years together working and raising their family in Ada. She preceded him in death on May 9, 2013. For over 30 years Mike owned his own backhoe service and moved dirt all across Oklahoma. He was also an avid classic car fan and won several awards for the 1937 Chevy pickup he restored. Mike was also a stockcar driver and traded paint for 16 years at tracks all across Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas.

Mike is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kory and Cameron Lewis of Oklahoma City; his son, Kurt Gilliam of Ada; his son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Maggie Gilliam of Dallas; his sister Elaine Shelton of Ada; his sister Brenda Tatum of Moore; his brother Terry Forehand of Slaughterville; and his mother, Mildred Forehand of Ada. Mike is survived by his true joy, his grand-kids: Kase, Kyler, Noah, Tanner, Aaron and Natalie Gilliam.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, LaDonna Gilliam; his brother Curtis Gilliam and his dad George Gilliam.

Bearers will be Monte Law, Joe Lee Walker, Pat Mitchell, Jimmy Haskins, Clint Welch and Mo Brashier.
