Phyllis Ann Sullivan

On Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at age 78, Phyllis Ann Sullivan went to be with her Lord. She was born the seventh of eight children to Tomie and Sadie Wilder Sullivan on the farm at Fitzhugh.

Phyllis graduated from Fitzhugh High School in 1953 at the age of 16 and completed her bachelor of science degree in education at East Central University in 1956. She received her masters in teaching from East Central in 1959. In 1960 she moved to Amarillo, Texas, teaching and working as a counselor at William B. Travis Jr. High School while completing graduate study for counselor certification at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. In 1973, Phyllis returned to Oklahoma City to work at Rose State College as a counselor and teaching psychology. She retired in 1991 as coordinator of school relations at RSC, a licensed professional counselor, LPC, and a national board-certified counselor, NBCC. She completed her course work for her doctorate in higher education at the University of Oklahoma.

Over the years, Phyllis was active in the church, where she was a member of Fitzhugh United Methodist Church, Polk Street Methodist in Amarillo, Grace Methodist in Oklahoma City, Faith Methodist in Tulsa and Eufaula United Methodist in Eufaula. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.

She is survived by her three sisters, Lucille York and Bobby Peters, both of Fitzhugh, and Jody Green of Midland, Texas; sister-in-law Betty Sullivan of Atoka; and brothers-in-law Pete Peters and Jerry Green. She has many nieces and nephews, great- and grand-nieces and -nephews. She is survived by special friends Pat and Corky McDaniel and family, and Chris and Deanna Wright and family of Tulsa.

Dr. Travis Muse of Asbury United Methodist Church of Ada will preside over the services. Phyllis will be laid to rest at Lightning Ridge Cemetery, next to her family.

Honorary bearers are G.D. Peters, Jerry Green and Corky McDaniel. Bearers are her nephews Jim and Tom Klepper, Mike, Richard and Scott Sullivan, Ron Denham, Jay Frank, Jon Green, and Chris Wright.

Services will be held at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015.
