Services for Wilbur Don Henderson, 85, of Stratford are 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Toby Willoughby will officiate. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery.
Mr. Henderson passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024 at his home. He was born June 14, 1938 in Lula, OK to Paul Ray and Velma Loyene Lane Henderson. Don started school at Lula in 1943, then the family moved to Oakridge Tennessee. In September 1945, they moved back to Ada and Don graduated from Latta High School in 1956.
On August 1, 1980 he married Joan Marie Wood in Stratford. Mr. Henderson joined the Ada Police Department and attended many police schools including the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. He served as the Assistant Chief for the City of Ada Police for 10 years. After 22 years of service for the police department, he retired to the family farm at Parish Chapel.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of the home; one son, Rowdy Lewelling and wife Becci of Wayne; four other children, Crystal, James, Leslie and Jennifer; one brother, Jerry Henderson and wife Dean of Ada; sister, Geraldine Carrol of Edmond; grandson, Brannon Lewelling and other loving relatives and friends.
Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Olen and Gene; one sister, Etheylene; father-in-law, Togo Wood; mother-in-law, Irene Wood; and brother-in-law, Howard Wood.
Bearers are the Ada Police Department and honorary bearers are the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Ada Police Department.
