Robert Henry "Bob" Miller, 87, of McAlester, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at his residence. The family will greet friends on Friday, August 21, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2020, at the First Free Will Baptist Church of McAlester officiated by Rev. Steve Mayhew. Burial will follow at Tannehill Cemetery. The service will also be broadcast on Facebook on "McAlester's First Free Will Baptist Church" Facebook page. Pallbearers will be Jeff Meeks, Ethan Miller, Joe Ragan, Mark Miller, Steve Brock, and Bob Thornton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons and Trustees Board of the First Free Will Baptist Church and Robert Hass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church in memory of Bob Miller. Contributions may be sent in care of Jim Miller, 125 S. Main #142, McAlester, OK 74501. Bob Miller was born on November 21, 1932, in Osceola, Indiana to John Mosie and Melissa Mable (Luttrell) Miller. The Miller family moved to Oklahoma in 1933. He grew up in the Tannehill area and graduated from Indianola High School with the class of 1951. Bob married Peggy Faye Whitfield on November 1, 1952, and they were married for 66 years before her death on January 26, 2019. Bob and Peggy co-owned and operated Miller Glass Company from 1984 until retiring in 1996. He was a partner in Miller Brothers from 1977 until his retirement. He also owned and operated a cattle ranch on Pyle Mountain since 1972. Bob lived his life in service to his church and to his community. He was a devout Christian and a faithful member of First Free Will Baptist Church for over 67 years, serving as a deacon since 1956. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Bob loved singing and was a member of the church's Men’s Quartet and choir director. He sang at local church events and other services; and could often be heard singing, humming, or whistling his favorite gospel hymns. Bob was a member of the McAlester SERTOMA Club and a 32nd degree Mason. He served as Chief of the Tannehill Fire Department, as Chairman of Tannehill Cemetery Board for many years, and was a member of the Indianola Alumni Association. Bob loved being outdoors: hunting, playing golf, working on his ranch, and taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents: John "Mosie" Miller and Mable Luttrell Miller; father-in-law and mother-in-law: James Michael and Flora Mae Martin Whitfield; wife: Peggy Faye Miller; brothers: Noble Miller, O'Dell "Sy" Miller, J.M. "Jim" Miller, Jr; sister: Fern Miller Ragan; sister-in-law: Golda Jenson; brothers-in-law: Glynn Whitfield, Clyde Whitfield, T.E. "Toots" Whitfield; and nephews: Kent Miller, Curt Miller, Dr. Randy Miller, Charles Jenson, and Kent Whitfield. Bob is survived by his daughter: Sheila Hull and husband, Terry of Coweta; son: Jim Bob Miller and wife, Linda of McAlester; daughter: Shelley Miller of Bedford, Texas; grandchildren: Lori Elders and husband, Terry of Muskogee; Jeffrey Meeks and wife, Kelly of Claremore; Ethan Miller of Oklahoma City; Courtney Miller of Norman; great-grandchildren: Moira Wright, Josie Wright, Emily Meeks, and Lillian Meeks; and many nieces, nephews, other beloved family members, and friends.
