Betty Laverne Martin, 87, of McAlester, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester. Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester with Dr. Craig Shaw officiating. Burial will follow at Tannehill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Alan Martin, Joe Martin, Conner Shaw, Jimmy Young, Luke Martin, Blake Martin, Jacob Martin, Easton Martin, Ben Shields, Landon Harmon, and Jeremiah Young. Betty was born on August 15, 1937 in McAlester to Crayton and Myrtle Hendrix. She married Oscar Martin on August 20, 1954 in McAlester. She worked for several nursing homes as a CNA. While working at Blevins Nursing Home, she was recognized as "Employee of the Year." She enjoyed cooking for her family, baby sitting grandbabies, singing and listening to music. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in McAlester. Betty is survived by her children, Donna Young and James of Ardmore, OK, Debbie McIntosh of McAlester, OK, David Martin and Laurie of McAlester, OK, Denise Shaw and Craig of Collinsville, OK, Darrell Martin and Candy Blair of Pottsboro, TX; grandchildren, Tiffany Hill and Gina, Alan Martin and Kandi, Renae Shields and Carter, Joe Martin, Jessica Martin, Ashley Young, Jimmy Young, Shastidy Young, Abby Martin, Luke Martin, Tara Shaw, and Conner Shaw; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oscar David Martin, who passed on May 3, 2024; son, Mike McIntosh; and all six of her siblings.
