Elmer "Junior" South, 75, of McAlester, died Monday, Oct. 7, in Tulsa. Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne. Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in Hartshorne. Burial will follow at Sulphur Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Polansky, J. C. Nevels, Gary Allen Vermillion, John Vermillion, Roger Melton and Shawn Melton. Honorary pallbearers are Dwayne Hubbard, Raymond Cowan and George Thompson. Junior was born on Aug. 18, 1944 in Hartshorne to Belmer and Isabell (Zukosky) South. He grew up in the Hartshorne area and attended school at Dow, then at Lone Oak, and finally at Hartshorne, where he graduated. Junior had done a number of things through his life; he first worked at the old Double Cola plant, then operated his own bike shop, J & J Cycle, then worked at the Army Ammunition Plant for 38 years, until his retirement. His adult life was spent mainly in the McAlester area after a short time living in Bache. Junior is survived by a daughter, Vicky South; 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law, Steve and Lindsey "Shorty" South and Brian South; grandchildren, Joshaua Eacret, Albert Eacret, Cody Anderson, Bryce South, and Morgan (Little Shorty) Lukenbaugh; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Laura South; 3 sisters and 1 brother-in-law, Rosie and Paul Carney, Wanda Robertson and Evelyn Carney; a half-brother, Charles Sumpter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Laura South and Mary Vermillion; and a half-brother, Albert South.
