Staff Sergeant Gene Louise (Brown) Wiley, 98 of Savanna, died Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at her residence. The family will greet friends and visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Bishop Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Savanna Cemetery officiated by Rev. Kerry Kirkhart. Military honors will be provided the U.S. Marine Corps Honors Team. Burial will follow. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the U.S. Marine Corps League; Lynn Barlow, Don Capps, Ralph Lalli, Paul Fabry, Brian Wiley, Leslie Renae Wiley, Stormy Wiley, and Ryder Wiley. Gene Louise was born to Thomas M. And Cecelia K. (Nelson) Brown on January 6, 1923 in Wausau, Wisconsin. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a staff sergeant in communications for 3 years. Gene met GySgt George K. Wiley in San Francisco. They were married on January 15, 1947 in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was a homemaker for several years, and moved to Savanna in 1959. She worked in Ammunition Records at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and retired after 20 years. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and canning. Gene loved to type letters and mail out Christmas cards. She was a member of the NRA and the Fleet Reserve Association. Gene was preceded in death by her father: Thomas M. Brown, mother: Cecelia K. Winans, stepfather: John Winans, husband: George Wiley, an infant son, daughter-in-law: DeAnna G. Wiley, and brothers: Wayne Winans and John Winans. Gene is survived by her sons: Wayne K. Wiley of Savanna, Michael P. Wiley of Burlington, Kansas; grandchildren: Brian Wiley, Leslie Renae Wiley, both of McAlester; great-grandchildren: Stormy Wiley, Ryder Wiley, Hunter Fender, Austin Oculet; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends; and her beloved cats: Katie and Tipper.
