Alvie Sutton, age 85, died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Savanna with the Reverend Bob Kendrick, Reverend Willie Virden and Reverend Kyle Cummings officiating. Burial will follow at Savanna Cemetery under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Alvie Sutton was born on October 26, 1931 in Nail, Oklahoma, (Shady Grove area) to George Wesley and Ruby (Burns) Sutton. He grew up there and has lived most of his adult life near Savanna. He married Francille Phifer on May 27, 1954 in Savanna. Alvie worked as a forklift operator at the Army Ammunition Plant for several years, then started the Sutton and Son Construction Company with his son, Larry, doing residential remodels and upgrades. After that, he went to work for the Savanna Public Schools as a bus driver for several years. His favorite hobby was fishing for catfish. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Savanna where he served as deacon and Sunday School director, as well as Boy Scout Leader there for 11 years. Survivors include his wife, Francille Phifer-Sutton of the home; 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law, Karen Sutton of Krebs, Vivian and Stan Hjort of Petersburg, Alaska; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Judy Sutton of Indianola; grandchildren, Jessica Ranallo of Hartshorne, Kristina Underwood and husband Josh of Savanna; great-grandchildren, Ashilynn Ranallo and Willow Underwood. He was preceded in death by his parents. Active pallbearers are Gary Reeder, Tom Reeder, Brian Brown, Tanner Brown, Butch Capps and George Blessing. Honorary pallbearers are John Nelson, Haskell Melton, Johnny Leird, Bill Brewster, Barney Barrows, Jeffrey Osborne, Jim Davis, Dale Jones, Tucker McBane and Trev McBane.
