Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Savanna Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born in Mora, Minn., he was the son of Melvin Wayne and Glenna Edith Nelson Nowling. He attended high school in Minnesota and then moved to Idaho, where he worked for several years. He received his GED, in 1977, and was a member of the National Guard.

He then moved back to McAlester, where he raised his family until moving to Talihina where he worked as an auto mechanic.

He married Betsy Briggs on Nov. 19, 1997, in Talihina, and they then moved to Tulsa where he worked for Jana-King janitorial services and then he was a janitorial general contractor.

He moved to Savanna in 2000 and lived there until his death. He enjoyed his family and outdoor activities and was known by his family as "The Grill Master."

Survivors include his wife, Betsy Nowling, of the home; six sons, Marty Wayne Nowling, of the home, Ryan Nowling, of Minnesota, Brandon Nowling, of Minnesota, twins, Jeremy Berger and Mitchell Berger, of Minnesota, and Noah Berger, of the home.

Also, five grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law; sister and brother-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews, including, Angela and Jeremy Eldridge, Christina Finamore and April Briggs, and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Nowling and Glenna Nowling Tucker, and his father-in-law, Marvin Briggs.
