Barbara Jean Barnett, 63, of McAlester, died Sunday May 3, 2015 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6 at Bishop Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 7 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Rev. Kyle Cummings officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her parents in Savanna Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service. Barbara was born March 10, 1952 at home in Savanna to Gene and Luella (Price) King. She grew up and attended school in Savanna and graduated with the class of 1970 in McAlester. She went on to obtain her Masters of Education at East Central University. Her passion was teaching children with learning disabilities. She taught at Crowder, Tulsa, and McAlester, retiring after 25 years. Her greatest joy was her four grandchildren. She believed her grandsons were brilliant and her granddaughters were the most beautiful. She enjoyed taking pictures of all her grandchildren doing all of their various activities and creating scrapbooks of memories. She is survived by her children and spouses: daughter: Janet and Daniel Hance, and son: Jason and Stephanie Barnett, all of McAlester; her four amazing grandchildren: Dylan Hance, Brooklyn Williams, Daryn Hance, and Tucker Barnett, all of McAlester. Also, brother: Rocky and Linda King of Muskogee; sisters: Doris and Michael Hooten of Kansas City, Missouri, and Elaine and Keith Glaser of Lake Villa, Illinois; aunt: Leavona Arterburn of Savanna; great-aunt: Leota Nuttall of Tushka; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends. Pallbearers will be Randy King, Larry Barnett, Mike Barnett, Charles Nuttall, Dorman Nuttall, and Doyle Wayne Parham. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Houser, Robert Williamson, and Wayne Kannady.
