James "Ray" Porter Sr., 82, of Pittsburg, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2017. Ray was born on Nov. 10, 1934, to Herman and Myrtle (Burnett) Porter, in Pittsburg. He married Jessie Durant on May 27, 1954, in Lordsburg, New Mexico. He worked as a truck driver for Big-V Feeds and at the Pittsburg County District II and was a lifelong cattleman. The one thing that brought Ray the most joy was rodeo play days with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jessie Porter, of the home; son, James Porter and wife, Brenda, of McAlester; daughter, Marilyn Drake and husband, Bobby, of Savanna; six grandchildren, Kim Harris and husband, Cody, Stacey Sanders and husband, Patrick, Chris Porter, Brett Porter, Heather Horton and husband, Brad and Adam Drake and wife, Brittany; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Vera Buie, of Casa Grande, Arizona, twin, Fay Baldwin and husband, Dennis, of Eufaula, Fern Block and husband, Floyd, of Tanto Basin, Arizona, and Demett Johnson and husband, William, of Blanco, and other family and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Myrtle Porter, and sister, Effie Porter. The family will greet friends Wenesday, Feb. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chaney's Memorial Chapel. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Pine Top Cemetery with the Rev. Willie Virden officiating. Interment will follow. Pallbearers will be Michael McMahan, William Johnson, Brett Porter, Levi McMahan, Brad Horton and James Porter.
