Gomer Roy Taylor, 87, of McAlester, Oklahoma died on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2021 at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home with Elder Chip Hinds officiating. The burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in McAlester. Pallbearers will be Robert Sheverbush, Lane Brock, Cason Teel, Joe Randazzo, William Anderson, and Philip Wayne Randazzo. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Muncy, L.E. Glover, Bill Coop, Kenneth Haile, Jerry Crowl, and Bruce Hall. Gomer was born on August 6, 1934 in Ashland, Oklahoma to Ralph Garland and Lillian Irene (Morgan) Taylor. He married Helen Randazzo on October 28, 1961. He graduated from McAlester High School with the Class of 1953, and attended A & M Technical College in Okmulgee. Gomer played baseball in High School, College, and for a local 1960's baseball team in McAlester. Gomer belonged to the Church of God (7th Day) in McAlester where he was a founding member and church Elder. He also served in the Oklahoma National Guard and the United States Army. He was employed as a carpenter in the McAlester area for over 60 years. He is survived by his wife: Helen of the home; three children: Denielle Taylor of Plano, Texas, Larry (Diana) Taylor of McAlester, and Stanley (Michelle) Taylor of Bixby; four granddaughters: Heather (Robert) Sheverbush of Bixby, Madison (Lane) Brock of McAlester, Emily (Cason) Teel of Ada, and Lauren Taylor of McAlester; one great grand-daughter: Mara Brock; and two sisters: Delores Thetford of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Anna Payne of Longview, Texas. Gomer is preceded in death by his parents; twin brother: Homer; and grandparents: Rollie and Maude Taylor of Ashland, and John and Martha Morgan of Kiowa.
