Evelyn M. Lienhard, 86, of McAlester, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the McAlester Regional Health Center. The family will greet friends on Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bishop Chapel of Memories. A vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. led by Deacon Larry Deford. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church celebrated by Very Reverend Jovita Okonkwo. The burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, McAlester, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, McAlester. Pallbearers will be Paul Deford, Will Lienhard, Joe Lienhard, D.J. Lienhard, Nathan Moser and Tom Hightower. Evelyn was born on May 26, 1935 in Scribner, Nebraska to Joseph Henry Hunke and Theresa Barbara (Gentrup) Hunke. Evelyn married James "Jim" Lienhard in 1958 in Wichita, Kansas. They moved the family to McAlester, OK where they owned and operated Massey Bakery for 30 years. Evelyn and Jim enjoyed serving the community with their Italian bread, donuts, thumbprint (and other) cookies, and birthday cakes. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to see her grandkids, going to lunch with friends, participating in Red Hat events, and volunteering with St. John's Ladies Guild. Evelyn "Mimi" loved playing card and board games with her grandchildren. Bingo was a favorite with a shiny quarter as the prize. She enjoyed watching her OSU Cowboys on Saturdays as well as watching her grandkids participate in various sporting events. Mimi's last several years at Van Buren offered the opportunity for many new friendships and extra-special care. The family very much appreciates the love and care they provided to her. The family is also indebted to many McAlester friends who made her life full by their visits, meals and, especially rides to church from her favorite Sooner fan. Evelyn truly had a gift of making each and every person feel special, whether it was a customer, family member, friend, or stranger. You knew you were endearing to her when she called you "Punkin" or "Shug" and ended a conversation with "I love you more." Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband: James "Jim" Lienhard in 2013; her parents: Joseph and Theresa Hunke; her brothers: Ray, Clarence, Dennis, and Joe Hunke; and her sisters-in-law: Norma, Effie, and Joyce Hunke and Jeanine Lienhard. She is survived by her sons: Paul Lienhard and wife, LeAnn of Oklahoma City, and Steve Lienhard of Wichita, Kansas; her daughter: Connie Deford and husband, Larry of Dexter, Michigan; 9 grandchildren: Ashley Deford, Sarah Deford Moser and husband, Nathan, Paul Deford and wife, Amanda, Alexa Lienhard, Will Lienhard, Bridget Lienhard Hightower and husband, Tom, Hannah Lienhard, Joe Lienhard, and D.J. Lienhard; her sister: Rita Crompton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her sister-in-law, Eileen Parker of Spokane, Washington; brother-in-law: William Lienhard of Lawrence, Kansas; along with several nieces, nephews and other family.
